  Jordan's Principle goes national
In December, Members of Parliament unanimously passed a private member's bill in support of Jordan's Principle. The bill, introduce by NDP MP Jean Crowder, called for a “child first” principle in resolving jurisdictional disputes involving First Nations children and youth. Work is still needed to ensure that provinces and territories agree to support and implement Jordan’s Principle as well. For more information or to get involved go to: www.manyhandsonedream.ca/english/advocacy.html

British Columbia first province to support Jordan's Principle
In a speech to the First Nations Chiefs Forum in Vancouver, Premier Gordon Campbell became the first to announce provincial support for Jordan's Principle"I wanted to be clear that we did embrace the principle," he said. "We're going to work with the federal government. We'll work with the First Nations. But children will get the first call and they'll be put at the centre." More information is expected to come in the BC government's speech from the throne Feb 12.
